Whether you have a ticket, plan to watch from the couch or simply love the horse country that makes Kentucky famous, here is what the weekend looks like.
Two days, fourteen championships
The Breeders' Cup is built as a season finale. Across the two cards, 14 Grade 1 races offer more than $34 million in purses and awards, and nearly every division of the sport, from 2-year-olds on the turf to the older dirt horses, gets its own championship.

Tickets and how to watch
If you were hoping to buy a seat at the gate, the answer is no. Attendance is capped at 43,000 per day, every ticket is sold in advance through BreedersCup.com using a SeatGeek account, and no tickets are sold at Keeneland itself. Fans without tickets have plenty of company, and plenty of television.
NBC Sports is planning roughly 10.5 hours of coverage across NBC, USA Network and Peacock over the two days, and FanDuel TV will carry the races as well. That makes it easy to watch Friday's juveniles after work and settle in on Saturday afternoon for the long run up to the Classic.
What the weekend means for Lexington
Championship racing brings more than horses to town. In an interview with WKYT, Breeders' Cup chief operating officer John Keitt said organizers hope this year's event will bring about $100 million into the area. For comparison, the 2025 Breeders' Cup at Del Mar in California generated an estimated $125 million.
Lexington has a recent benchmark of its own. Leslie Miller of VisitLEX told the station that the 2022 Breeders' Cup at Keeneland produced about $81 million in economic impact, including more than $30 million spent on hospitality, retail, food and beverage. Downtown restaurants and hotels told reporters they expect visitors to arrive days before the first race and to linger afterward.
2026 is a goal stated by Breeders' Cup COO John Keitt, not a result.

For Kentucky makers, that spending matters. Bourbon, chocolate, pewter and horse-themed gifts are the souvenirs racing fans pack home, and a world championship on local soil is one of the best showcases the state's small producers get all year.
Host a Breeders' Cup watch party at home
You do not need a box seat to make the weekend feel like Keeneland. A few touches go a long way:
- Serve something in a julep cup. The mint julep is a Derby tradition, but a chilled cup works for any big race day. A polished cup like the Classic Mint Julep Cup or a pewter Salisbury Kentucky julep cup makes even iced tea feel like an occasion.
- Put out something sweet. Bourbon balls are the classic Kentucky race-day treat. The Ruth Hunt Equine Collection is made in Kentucky and dressed for horse country.
- Run a friendly pool. Write each Classic starter on a card, draw names and let the winner keep a small prize, perhaps a julep-cup horse lapel pin.
- Dress the table. A horse figurine, fall flowers and a racing program printout set the mood for very little money.
If you are sending a gift to someone who loves racing, a curated basket such as the Horse Head Gift Basket bundles chocolates, a julep glass and other Kentucky treats into one box. Browse our Derby and horse racing collection for more ideas.
