November is when Kentucky's holiday shopping season really gets going. Over the next three weekends, makers, potters, bakers and small boutiques set up in barns, arenas, gardens and even a castle across the state. We rounded up eight markets and gift shows from Bowling Green to Versailles, with dates, hours and admission taken from each organizer's own listing, so you can plan a weekend of shopping local.

Mid-month: Somerset, Lexington and a busy Louisville Saturday
The weekend of November 13 to 15 is the busiest of the month. In Somerset, the Sheltowee Artisans hold their 32nd annual Holiday Craft Fair at the Center for Rural Development on Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15. Admission is free, food vendors will be on site, and the group promises artists and craftspeople from across Kentucky and beyond, plus Kentucky Proud products.
In Lexington, the Lexington Christmas and Gift Show runs November 13 to 15 at Central Bank Center, with local crafters, gourmet treats, holiday decor, apparel and toys on its vendor list.
Louisville gets two small, charming options on Saturday, November 14. The Louisville Potters present their Holiday Pottery Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Waterfront Botanical Gardens on Frankfort Avenue. The organizers say the market has been a tradition for more than 50 years, and admission is free. Across town, Presentation Academy hosts its fourth annual Shop and Sip from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its arts and athletic center on South Fourth Street, with crafts, holiday decor and gifts. Can't make the drive? Shop Kentucky makers from home
If your calendar is already full, a few of the store's favorites carry the same handmade spirit. A Kentucky artist paints each of our Kentucky hand-painted ornaments on frosted glass, and the rustic Kentucky Christmas tree ornament is finished from reclaimed tobacco sticks. For the kitchen, Lucky Clover Farm Christmas Jam is made in small batches in Richmond, and Elmwood Inn's Christmas in a Cup tea comes from Danville. Add a Kentucky sayings sign made from upcycled barrel staves, or read Santa Is Coming to Kentucky with the little ones, and your holiday will feel local wherever you are.
Happy hunting, and if you spot a jockey-silk ornament at one of these markets, you'll know Kentucky's horse country found its way onto another tree.
